I have been wanting to setup a simple process to take pictures from my pda-phone and have them posted to my site (ie “moblogging“). When I saw the new web service Tumblr, I was inspired to act on it. After a couple weeks of testing, I decided that tumblr wasn’t quite what I was looking for. You can still see the test site here: pls.tumblr.com. But at least it got me started.
I now have my moblog module setup where it is working pretty seamlessly from my phone to my flickr account and to the front page of this site (in the upper right-hand corner). Granted the pictures from my phone aren’t going to be very good quality (camera phones still have a ways to go), but I guess that’s not the point. The point is to have a simple way to keep a photographic log throughout the day.
I had that problem, particularly when I was modifying the style and formatting. In that case, it turned out to be firefox which wasn’t refreshing properly. But that’s cool that you got it working with the flickr javascript.
ok, never mind. I ditched the flickrRSS plugin and just used the generated javascript from Flickr itself. I think it’ll be faster than the rss and work properly.
Thanks! I set it up, and the emailing the picture via phone is perfect, but the only thing is that it seems to take flickr rss a long time to refresh or something. Do you have that problem? I uploaded pictures like 10 minutes ago, but they still don’t show up on my site.
Flickr provides an e-mail address that you can e-mail pics from your phone too, and you can assign a specific tag to the pics uploaded by e-mail (for example, “moblog”). Then just use the flickrRSS plguin to display the pics that are tagged as selected.
what plugin did you use, and what’s the code look like? How’d you upload pictures directly from your phone? I want one. Give more details!!
