I don’t usually go for these blogging tag things, but I guess since it was my wife who tagged me, and I did just post about the ‘positive’ effects of Xanga, I’ll be a good sport
From what I understand from the list, I’m supposed to put down five random things about me, and considering my brain works in a pretty dysfunctional, nonlinear way, let’s see what comes out:
- When reading a book, I don’t fold the pages or even the corners. I avoid disfiguring the book in any way, including with paperbacks, not folding or creasing the binding. My rational justification is that I am preserving and respecting the physical appearance of the book. Unfortunately, no one agrees with me and they all think I’m just nuts
. - When eating snacks, I just take a eat a few pieces at a time, including Pringles (so I guess when I pop, I can stop). This being the case, I have collected different ways to re-close snack boxes and bags (particularly in the office setting): staples work alright, but difficult for repeated opening and closing; rubber bands, but those are just troublesome to take on and off; and binder clips, which work the best.
- I don’t like to eat bitter melon, but then again, who does, oh wait, my parents do, hehe.
- I like to eat fu2 zhu2 (aka tofu skin, or in Japanese – yuba), especially as a stew with pork spare ribs (which of course, my wife makes deliciously), but I don’t think I’ve ever seen this dish outside of Fan family dinners, so I wonder where this dish came from originally.
- If you’ve been following any of the hyperlinks in this list, can you tell, I love Wikipedia. This is a great online resource for learning about and referencing everything.
Let’s see, now I’m supposed to tag some people, but then again, they might be too old-fashioned or too blog snobby to do it, haha: Fanster, Crazeetraveler and Schwea.
Hahaha, I almost had a heart attack when you said “I just tear a corner off…”, then I finished the sentence =P.
you guys are anal! Emmanuel won’t even open a book more than 45 degrees open. You can barely read that way. At least I don’t dogear books anymore. I just tear a corner off of whatever paper’s lying around and use that. But then I end up with bills, and newsletters and stuff with torn edges, hehe.
Yeah, bookmarks are cool!
Wait a minute, I need to qualify my statement: I ‘loan’ out books without the expectation that they will be returned (in original condition). In other words, I am more than willing to give away books
. Then again, with e-books, life is so much neater, no messy physical matter to deal with
.
Dude, I’m not alone!!!! =) I don’t dog-ear my books. Hello?? It’s called a bookmark?? =) Plus, this is an excuse for me to buy bookmarks in whatever countries I’m in!
I don’t even open the paperback ones all the way so that I don’t ruin the binding! Although, I do loan out my books, unlike Emmanuel.
you guys are both nuts… Heeheehee… books are meant to be folded and bindings cracked. i once dropped a book in water too. and i thought about inventing something to keep the book dry so i can read in the shower. but i do hate covers folded…
#4 is a very common chinese dish, but mostly with fatty pork meat with skin or you can make with ribs. you typically add star annais too. it’s yummy.
hehe, 5.56mm round business card, that’s cool. Colin Powell, hmm, I’ll have to look into that book, yet another one to add to my growing list of books to read.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that treats books respectfully!
i’m with you on your #1. i normally don’t fold corners when i read books either. (i’m currently reading the autobiography of Gen. Colin Powell.) and instead of using a real bookmark, i use my business card to mark my place. when i was in the army, i used to read a lot during our down times. and since i didn’t have a real business card back then (my business card was a 5.56mm round!), i taped a thin string (550 gut) to the binding and used that as my bookmark. when i’m finished with the book, i would remove the string.
emmfan, i totally agree with you, and i don’t think you’re nuts at all!!
